About

About Will Dempster: Will Dempster is a second year master's student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel where he studies Islamic and Middle Eastern studies, Arabic and Hebrew. Focusing on Palestinian politics and history and Iranian religion, politics and history, Will hopes to supplement his undergraduate education at George Washington University with some on-the-ground experience in the Middle East. While in the Middle East, he has traveled to Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Turkey and Morocco in an effort to better understand the complex dynamics in the volatile region on the street-level. In the coming year, Will plans to travel to Syria, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Will graduated with a BA in International Affairs with a concentration in the Middle East in 2006. His interest in the Middle East began during his tenure as the First Vice President of the North American Federation of Temple Youth, the youth movement of Reform Judaism in 2002-2003. During college he served on the executive committee of the Israel on Campus Coalition, an umbrella organization of over 30 pro-Israel groups working on college campuses. He also interned for Americans for Peace Now and the OneVoice Movement - for whom he served as its national youth co-chair his senior year of college. Will splits his time between Jerusalem and New Jersey where he is an active participant in local politics - doing communications work with Somerset County Democrats. About From DC to Jerusalem: From DC to Jerusalem launched in August 2006 as a way for Will to post his thoughts, observations and pictures during his time in Jerusalem. After being inactive for the past few months, Will relaunched the site as a way to contribute in some small way to the foreign policy debate in the 2008 presidential election. He plans to track and comment on different foreign policy pronouncements from various candidates and comment on major foreign policy issues in the campaign. As always, Will plans to supplement this discussion with on-the-ground insight and photos from the Middle East.
